Sony is quickly expanding its range of smartphone availability in the country. After launching its Xperia Z and ZL smartphones last month, the Japan-based brand has now launched the Xperia SP mid-range smartphone that was launched in global markets late last month, along with Xperia L.
The company has adopted a thin-line design for this year's Xperia smartphone range and Xperia SP is another addition to its portfolio of products in the country.
The Xperia SP comes with an 11.6-cm (4.6-inch) display and runs Android 4.1 aka Jelly Bean. The SP is powered by a 1.7 GHz dual-core processor and 1 GB RAM. Sony is looking to widen its product segment with offerings across different segments but it seems pricing-wise the company has missed a trick and not priced the Xperia SP more aggressively (say around price of Samsung Galaxy S2).
Moving on, camera wise, the phone has an 8 MP rear camera, with the addition of 0.3 MP front-facing shooter for video calling. Xperia SP offers 3G, NFC, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, GPS and micro-USB support in terms of connectivity. Sony has loaded the Xperia SP with a 2,370 mAh battery, which could turn out to be handy.
Priced at Rs 27,490 the Xperia SP will be available across retail channels in the country from mid-April. Sony is giving away premium case worth Rs 1,990 for free. The company has also pre-loaded Sony Music, for live streaming, Sony Liv video streaming app that are also part of the Xperia Z and ZL package.
